2024

This is a project about desire for affiliation and identity. It uses football scarves, which recently pushed their way into pop culture as a trend item. Football teams use visual identity that comes from heraldry (the system by which coats of arms and other armorial bearings are devised). People can wear the team logo as armor, becoming a part of something. The problem comes, though, when you don’t have anything to affiliate with. I asked AI to generate a logo of a non-existing football club in a way that explores all existing team logos and takes the most used symbols, shapes, and colors to make the average from that. These logos are then used on the scarves. The outcome is a fictional merch, which, at the end, creates a faux community by people wearing it.

Following the Coat of Harmless project is a four print edition which works with national identity represented by a common and familiar object of coat of arms that is mandatory to be presented in classrooms in Slovakia.

An Ode to All of the Day Afters Back Then is an installation piece made by exploring the connection of scent and memories in a combination with olfactory art. This is captured through the usage of smells like alcohol, smoke and cologne on T-shirts bound by the sentence slik-printed on them. These smells are connected to growing up and new experiences captured by the phenomenon of the next day smell of the clothes.

The project is a symbol of protest. We first saw “V” and “Z” in a different context than the one we are used to in February on the tanks of the Russian army when it started its invasion in Ukraine. Since then, these signs have gradually transformed into the main symbols of Russian propaganda. By taking these letters from the alphabet and putting them on a flag, I symbolically communicate that there is no place for war and Russian propaganda in our world. Another important part of the work is that in many cases the location of this flag is at the border between the gallery (or school) and the public space. It tries to communicate not only with the gallery space and the artistic community but also with the general public.

Exhibited at the buildings of:
Academy of Arts Architecture & Design in Prague
The Royal Academy of Art in The Hague

Repropaganda

2022

“Totally Real” is an ironic look at conspiracy theories with an emphasis on Covid vaccination. The scene takes place from the spectator or conspirator’s point of view looking up, where he sees the lizard creatures handing him a vaccine, which contains a microchip as a “manipulation tool to control people.” References are used from "real" conspiracy theories. Conspiracy theories like these can have serious impact, as we have seen during the pandemic.

Living Room Painting

2020
(Kraslice - name of traditional painted eggshells which are made during easter in Slovakia)

In February 2020, parliamentary elections in Slovakia were approaching. The outcome was very important, as there was a threat that the nazi party might get into government. I remember looking at the videos from their marches in Bratislava. It was an army of marching skinheads. Paradoxically they had face masks over their mouth back then (before covid). While I was looking at hundreds of aggressors with shiny heads, I saw a resemblance.

The project consists of two parts. Posters with a QR code which takes you to the second part, and that’s the video which was unfortunately later deleted by YouTube. These posters were distributed among the people who are a huge part of the whole work. They put them in various places in Slovakia and also in Czechia.
